EL COMPADRE COLLECTION

Deep in the heart of Hollywood, there’s a magical place called El Compadre.  It’s dark and cool like a cave in a faraway place, filled with live mariachi music and blood red naugahyde booths and the best Mexican food north of the border.  It’s one of the last old places in Hollywood and the years only enhance the patina of it.  It’s run by a prince named Joey and staffed with wonderful people who make you wish you were latino too:  Guillermo and Eduardo and Hector and Chulo and Armando and Peter Parker…they feel like family, and these rooms like my own.  For 17 years, this haunt has been part of my mythos and no matter the plethora of places to have dinner in Los Angeles, I will always hope the people I’m with on any given night will return, once again, with me to El Compadre.
