Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was one of seven of only two that survived.  He was born into a music home.  His father, who would soon abandon his own career for that of his son's, was an accomplished violinist and keyboardist and filled his home with musical instruments.  His older sister was also a gifted pianist who would soon fade in the light of her little brother.  A family friend wrote this letter to Mozart's sister.

"One day I  returned on a Thursday from Church with your father to your home.  Little Wolfganger was scribbling away.

Papa: 'What are you doing?'

Wolfgang: 'I am writing a clavier concerto, the first part is almost finished.'

Papa: 'Let me see, that must be something very special!'

Papa took the paper and showed me a smudge of notes, most of which were written over ink-blots. At first, we laughed at what seems such a galimatias, but Papa then began to observe the most important matter, the music.  He stared long at the sheet and finally tears of joy and wonder fell from his eyes.

Wolfgang was five at the time.

Mozart had absolute hearing and a gift for sight-reading.  He was a virtuoso violinist and keyboardist by the time he was seven.  And if that wasn't enough, he had a great personality.  When he played for the Empress of Austria for the first time, he jumped up in her lap and kissed her.

By the time he was eight, he was adored by 30-year-old Bach.  This little boy played the royal organ, accompanied the singing Queen of England, and improvised the bass line on an air by Handel.

Haydn told Mozart's father, "Before God and as an honest man I tell you that your son is the greatest composer known to me either in person or by name."  One English headline read:  "The greatest Prodigy that Human Nature has to boast of is the Little German boy WOLFGANG MOZART."

And that was just the beginning.  To find out what happened next, get yourself to the record store!
